DAY 1

QUITO

Upon arrival to the Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Quito, you will have a transfer to your hotel.
You will be staying at Casa Gangotena located in the heart of Quito just next to San Francisco Square.

DAY 2

QUITO CITY TOUR

Full day Quito program with lunch in El Ventanal, from where you will have magnificent views of Colonial Quito and hopefully Cotopaxi Volcano.

Due to the beauty and history of colonial Quito, the main emphasis is given to the old city. The tour will include the Independence Square, from where it is possible to see and photograph the House of the President, the Cathedral and the City Hall.  Later you will visit the Companía de Jesus and the San Francisco Square and some of the most important museums of the pre-Hispanic and Inca archeology.

DAY 3

TRANSFER TO OTAVALO

You will be picked up by your driver to head towards a town near Cotacachi where your hotel is located, near the famous town of Otavalo.
Otavalo is located in Imbabura Province also known as the Lakes Province. Its people are all involved in handicrafts production, from weavings, stone and wood carvings, to leather goods.

DAY 4

OTAVALO MARKET AND BACK ROADS

One of the best things to do around Otavalo area besides visiting the typical Indian market is to go around the little villages where they are manufacturing the things that will be sold in the market.
For this tour you visit the towns of Calderon, Agato, Peguche, Iluman, and Cotacachi. This journey will really make you experience the indigenous culture as it takes you into their houses, their cultures and their daily routines with the production of handcrafts.

DAY 5

TRANSFER TO COTOPAXI

Your driver will pick you up after breakfast to take you to Hacienda San Agustin de Callo, in the foothills of Cotopaxi Volcano.
Since the 15th century San Agustin de Callo has served as Inca fortress, Augustinian convent and temporary home for the French Geodesic Mission whose scientific results helped to determine the true shape of the planet.
Surrounded by the smoke-blackened walls of the dining room, one can admire the stunning view of Cotopaxi, the highest active volcano in the world.

Before arriving to the hacienda you will pass in the car through Cotopaxi National Park. There will be time to stop in Laguna Limpiopungo to walk through some beautiful trails with wonderful views of 4 volcanoes: Rumiñahui, Pasochoa, Sincholagua and the majestic Cotopaxi.

DAY 6

QUILOTOA + TRANSFER TO RIOBAMBA

You will have a full day to explore the majestic Quilotoa Crater
Quilotoa is a huge collapsed crater, the bottom of which is filled with a lake. Its surroundings and the crater itself are something to be seen.
Besides the incredible geological view, there are Indian huts and indigenous people along the road. This trip gives a good idea of the culture of southern Indians of Ecuador and their unique handcrafts.
After Quilotoa you will continue to Riobamba to the Hacienda Abraspungo where you can enjoy free time to relax and rest in the afternoon.

DAY 7

DEVILS NOSE TRAIN + TRANSFER TO CUENCA

You will have a transfer to Alausi Train Station to go onboard the “Tren Crucero”. You will go through the high Paramo of Chimborazo to then descend to Sibambe and then back to Alausi.
The biggest complication faced by the construction of the Trans-Andean railroad was the Devil’s Nose, a mountain with almost perpendicular walls. To overcome this obstacle a zigzag railroad was bulit that climbs more than 500 meters in less than 12 km with steep ascents and descents. It today remains an impressive piece of engineering.
Once you complete the train railway, you will get back in the car to continue your journey in direction to Cuenca. You will stop in Ingapirca Ruins.
In the ruins it is possible to admire the fine Inca architecture and the trapezoidal windows and doors. The landscape around Ingapirca is quite beautiful and the Indian culture is well marked.
Finally reach Cuenca to the beautiful Mansion Alcazar.

DAY 8

FULL DAY CUENCA: GUALACEO AND CHORDELEG

Wake up in the beautiful city of Cuenca.

The Tomebamba River crosses the city dividing it in the modern city and the old colonial Cuenca, which makes it the most picturesque city in the country.

Walking around the central part of Cuenca is like going back in time. Its colonial architecture has been maintained. Along the banks of the river native women go to do their washing daily. Their colorful clothing makes the seen extremely picturesque. The city is also famous for its gold and silver jewelry and for the factories of the authentic Panama Hats.

You will be picked up in your hotel by your local guide to visit Gualaceo and Chordeleg, two little towns near Cuenca.

DAY 9

TRANSFER TO GUAYAQUIL WITH CAJAS NATIONAL PARK

On your way to Guayaquil you will do an important stop in Cajas National Park
This National Park is a fantastic place to get away from the city, relax and enjoy nature.
Cajas means lakes in Quechua. There are over 178 lagoons in all the protected area. The most impressive of all the vegetation is the “Paper Tree”. This species of tree, Polylepis, is in danger of extinction in Ecuador, yet in Cajas Reserve it is possible to see large numbers of them.
Approximately 125 species of birds have been found here. Amongst them, we can mention the Condor, the Violet-tailed Metal-tail, Sword-billed, and more..
After your stop at this magnificent landscape you will continue towards Guayaquil where your driver will drop you off in the wonderful, Hotel del Parque.

DAY 1

ARRIVAL TO COLONIAL QUITO

Upon your arrival to the airport your guide will assist the transfer to Casa Gangotena in Colonial Quito. The hotel is a colonial house that has been restored and remodeled to offer comfort and elegance. The area of the city in which it is located is known as a World Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO. The colonial churches and monasteries date back to 1535, when the Spaniards first landed in South America.

DAY 2

QUITO CITY TOUR AND PAPALLACTA

Due to the beauty and history of colonial Quito, the main emphasis is given to the old city. The tour includes the Independence Square from where it is possible to see and photograph the House of the President, the Cathedral and the City Hall.

At evening you will drive down to the inter-Andean valley and then across the Eastern Andes to the Thermal Spring of Papallacta. This beautiful place is located in a high Andean Valley gateway to the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest. It specializes in spas, health, recreation, adventure and relaxation.

DAY 3

JATUNYACU RIVER ADVENTURE

The Upper Rio Napo is also known locally as the Rio Jatunyacu, which means Big Water in Quichua. A great trip for both beginners and experts alike, it has the perfect combination of exciting rapids, calm pools, and fabulous jungle scenery that will delight you.

At the end of the day you will drive back to Tena to Hamadryade Lodge, a small boutique hotel located in the rain tropical forest.

Canyoning in baños

You will drive through a scenic road along the Amazon basin until you reach Baños. Once there, you will get prepared for your canyoning experience.

Our highly qualified canyoning guides are experienced and well-grounded in the technical know-how. First you will descend a 15 m water fall, then one of 20 m and finally one of 45 m.

At lunch you will arrive to Luna Runtun, a beautiful hotel and SPA surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and thermal waters.

PUENTING AND ZIP LINING IN BAÑOS

This day you can choose between jumping off the edge of a bridge over the Patate River or rush at full speed from multiple ravines. With both activities, puenting and zip lining, you will follow strict safety regulations in order to guarantee the highest operational standards.

After the activities you will drive towards Hacienda San Agustin de Callo, a historic hacienda that served as an Inca fortress, an Augustinian convent and a temporary home for the French Geodesic Mission.

DAY 6

QUILOTOA CRATER LAKE (ROAD TO GUAYAQUIL)

You will drive across the Andes enjoying the majestic views of the Cotopaxi volcano until you reach the Quilotoa Lake, a huge collapsed crater. It is possible to walk down to the shore and practice some kayaking. The trail back to the top is a very steep climb, but it is possible to hire a mule as transportation. A very fun and authentic experience!

In the afternoon you will continue your road trip to arrive to Guayaquil. You will stay at the Wynham Hotel, located in Las Peñas neighborhood.

DAY 7

ARRIVAL TO LAS TANUSAS

Early in the morning you will travel from Guayaquil port to the Pacific Coast, crossing the tropical dry forest, enjoying the views of the huge Ceiba trees.

You will arrive at Las Tanusas Retreat & SPA before noon. The hotel has one of the best gastronomic offers in the country and one of the few places that provides seclusion and comfort in perfect balance. The beach in which it is located is famous for its waves that can reach 3 m high, perfect for surfing.

WHALE WATCHING AND SNORKELING AT LA PLATA ISLAND

Isla de la Plata is a small island off the coast of Manabi, inside the Machalilla National Park.

From June to September humpback whales arrive to Machalilla Park to reproduce. You will board a small boat to watch them breaching out of water. You will also practice snorkeling. Along the coast it is possible to observe sea lions and the waters that surround the island are known for the abundant manta rays, different species of sharks and tropical fish.

MACHALILLA NATIONAL PARK FOR FISHING AND DIVING

After breakfast you will have a transfer to the boat that will take you fishing in Puerto Cayo. At noon you will do two inmersions. The waters of Machalilla National Park are subtropical and therefore it is possible to observe corals, gorgonians, mantas and many colorful fish.

You will have the option to practice kayaking in the afternoon.

DAY 10

KITESURFING IN SANTA MARIANITA BEACH

Santa Marianita beach is the most popular location for kitesurfing in Ecuador. The combination of a long beach with excellent waves and wind makes it ideal spot for rigging and launching a kite.

Since the beach is long and empty, there is plenty of space for all levels of surfers, from beginners to expert, without getting in the way of others. It is also a good place for a little beach break.

DAY 11

RETURN TO QUITO FOR YOUR FLIGHT BACK HOME

You will have a transfer to Manta’s airport (1 hour ride from the hotel) to take your flight back to Quito (40 min flight) and then your flight back home or to your next adventure.
